WALKHAMPTON Junior School pupils will have the honour of being the first to perform on the Memorial Hall's new stage, which was built thanks to a lottery grant under the Awards for All scheme.
The pupils will be staging an extremely belated pantomime, which initially had to be postponed in January following the flooding of the village hall.
'Alice Ba Ba and the Fourteen Thieves,' based on the Ali Ba Ba pantomime but with a modern setting, will take place in the afternoon of Wednesday, June 26, and the evening of June 27.
Teacher Nicky Wilson said the children were looking forward to the pantomime and being the first to use the new stage.
'We have been practising since November, the children are looking forward to it,' she said.
She said the audience could look forward to seeing some really bright costumes, which children and parents had been working on for months.
The new portable stage has replaced the old platform one which was damaged after flooding of the hall over Christmas. An Awards for All grant of £2,500 earlier this year turned the impressive new stage into a reality.
Awards for All aims to fund projects which extend access and participation, increase skills and creativity and quality of life.
