DARING fundraisers are being encouraged to enrol in a dramatic abseil off Meldon Viaduct in March to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The adrenaline-fuelled fundraiser is being organised for Sunday, March 24, with around 50% of entry places snapped up already to raise money for Marie Curie Nurses throughout Devon.
Marie Curie Cancer Care provides nursing care to patients with terminal cancer and other illnesses completely free of charge, so they can spend their final days at home with loved ones.
Regional event manager Jon Duckham said: 'We have had a great level of interest when we announced the event before Christmas and places are filling quickly. Numbers are limited as the abseil utilises the historic structure.
'The viaduct has stunning views and will make for a fantastic opportunity and a great way to start 2013, as you challenge yourself and do something truly unique.
'Set in one of the most stunning locations England has to offer, this abseil is going to be an amazing experience for those who take part.
'This is the first time we have organised an abseil from this bridge but it is certainly one of the most exhilarating and historic places we have used.'
No previous abseiling experience is necessary as a team of trained instructors will be onsite, and the event is open to any aged 16 or over.
Registration costs £10, to include all equipment and professional instruction, and there is a suggested minimum sponsorship of £100. Those looking to enrol, including groups of friends and colleagues, are encouraged to book places early as places are limited.
