OKEHAMPTON College is celebrating an excellent set of results at GCSE level, following last week's successful A-level pass news.

College principal Chris Powell said he was 'very pleased indeed' for the students who had worked so hard this year.

Mr Powell said: 'Fifty-three % of our Year 11s got five or more A* to C passes, up on last year which was about 46%, so that's up significantly.

'There are some youngsters that have some particularly good results. The girls have done better than the boys, but that seems to be a national trend at the moment.

'In terms of how we have done overall I am very pleased. There have been a lot of very pleased youngsters and parents in here this morning.'

Mr Powell said many of those receiving their GCSE results this week would now be going on to join the sixth form at the college to continue their education, but all were relieved the waiting for results was over.

'It's a horrible time of year and it never gets any easier, but we're all very pleased — the youngsters have done well,' he said.
