THE pupils of Oke Tor Class (years 2 and 3) at Lew Trenchard Primary School held a successful table top sale recently.
The sale was to raise money for WaterAid, a charity which helps underprivileged people gain access to clean water.
The children chose the cause after researching various charities. They decided on WaterAid after finding out that young children are often responsible for walking long distances to fetch water which is regularly unclean and dangerous.
The pupils decided to produce a book of stories which they could sell to raise funds. They also planned the table top sale, which involved writing to ask for donations of goods, designing posters and also writing to their MP to ask him what the Government is doing to help people who do not have access to clean water.
The class teacher, Mrs Powell, said the children were highly engaged with the writing they had produced because they felt as if they were writing to make a real difference to people's lives.
West Devon MP Geoffrey Cox, pictured above with the children, visited the event and promised to write back to each and every pupil who had written to him last term.
The event raised £246.52 for WaterAid.
