UP to 33 new trees will be planted in the centre of Yelverton in an effort to enhance the village.
After a period of consultation, Buckland Monachorum Parish Council has decided on a scheme which involves gorse clearance, removal of two trees and planting of new trees.
Judy Ricketts, clerk to the council, said: 'Letters which have been received both for and against the scheme have been considered and their points have been taken on board.
'We hope that the resulting scheme is a compromise that can be accepted.'
The tree-planting initiative was developed to try and screen the car parking area, but some residents did not think the idea appropriate for an open moorland village.
Councillors hope removal of gorse will help previously planted young trees on the approach to Yelverton from Tavistock.
A hawthorn tree, which causes an obstruction to pedestrians near the Rock Hotel, is to be felled in addition to another damaged tree on the opposite side of the road.
The new trees include silver birch and wild cherry and will be planted on the approach to Yelverton from Plymouth and Princetown.
A permanent Scots pine Christmas tree will be planted on the roundabout.
This year, a temporary tree will be erected by the council.
'Funding has come from donations from local traders, help from the fire brigade and electrician Rob Harvey and have been greatly appreciated,' said Mrs Ricketts.
The lights will be switched on by Margaret Garton, Mayor of West Devon, on Saturday, December 11, at 5pm
