ROUND one of the Speedo League at Backwell saw Tavistock triumph by three points in an exciting gala.

With 21 first places, Tavistock were well in contention for success throughout the gala, with the men?s open 6x50m freestyle relay team of James Lake, Matthew Lake, Jake Broome, Peter Freedman, Gareth Williams and Will Crocker clinching victory with a convincing win in the final event.

The final score was Tavistock 169, Bishopsworth 166, Clevedon 142, Weymouth 135 and Backwell 125.

Michael Best, James Lake, Joshua Stephens, Rachael Kelly, Isabel Grose, Jake Broome, Will Crocker, Matthew Lake and Gareth Williams all had at least one individual win and the squad recorded 31 personal best times.

Representing Tavistock for the first time were brother and sister Danielle and Josh Thackham.
