TAVISTOCK'S Graham Coiley and Emma Edwards are nearing the end of their challenge to swim in three local open water swimming events in three months to raise funds for Hospiscare, a charity which provides nursing care to the terminally ill in Devon.

In July, they participated in The Blue Mile, a swim in Plymouth Sound, setting off from Mayflower Steps.

August saw them travelling across the border into Cornwall to take part in the Falmouth Trident Challenge.

Last weekend they had their greatest test in an additional event, the Outdoor Swimming Society Dart 10K, with a gruelling seven mile swim in the beautiful Dart estuary from Totnes to Dittisham. They were joined by Emma's son Matt in his first open water event. Matt completed the challenge in 2 hours 8 minutes, while Emma and Graham spent just under 2hrs 45mins to reach dry land.

This Saturday, September 25, sees the final and most local event, with the One Mile Swim in Roadford reservoir.

Emma and Graham would like to thank their loyal band of followers and family who have encouraged from the water's edge, and held towels and hot drinks when required. They are hoping to raise £500 for Hospiscare.
