Canvassers will be carrying out a door-to-door survey of Tavistock residents taking part in the food waste trials over the next few weeks. The Government- backed Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), which is mainly funding the project, will be carrying out the survey to provide feedback on the scheme. The food waste initiative has proved extremely popular. The trial, which is being piloted for a year, was introduced in April for around 5,000 Tavistock residents who are being encouraged to put their food waste in a separate container. The container is emptied at the kerbside every week at the same time as recycling and refuse is collected. Cllr Chris Jenkins, chairman of the council?s environment and community committee, said: ?Feedback from our residents is essential as we need to be sure we are providing recycling services that benefit the household, the community and increase our overall level of recycling. We are constantly looking at ways to improve our recycling services, not just because of the legislation from Central and European Government, but because we all now have a responsibility towards the environment.?
