A new West Devon Borough Council surgery is being set up in Lifton this Sunday, May 13, to help people in rural communities take up council services they may be unaware of. Lifton is the latest area in the borough to benefit from the council initiative — called West Devon Connect — where advisers from the council's customer services team help residents in the borough's more remote areas use the scores of services available to them. Advisers have been able to help with hundreds of enquiries, ranging from requesting a recycling box, to reporting street cleaning and receiving information on how to apply for housing benefit and council tax benefit. The council is introducing its surgery at Lifton at the Recreation Field at the same time as the opening celebrations of a new children's play area and a car boot sale on Sunday May 13. The customer service advisors will be available from 10am to 2pm. Following the launch event, the surgery will be held every fortnight at the Lyd Room at the Arundell Arms in Lifton and will start on Wednesday May 23 from 9.30am to noon.
