TAVISTOCK town centre should be a riot of colour by the end of this weekend, as not six, but seven beautiful flower towers are due to be installed on Bedford Square. The 2.5 metre tall planters are being placed in the town centre by the chamber of commerce in a drive to make Tavistock look more attractive during the summer. The chamber last month appealed for businesses to sponsor the towers ? Nigel Eadie of the chamber said he was delighted at the positive reaction to the project. He said: ?It?s been brilliant ? everybody we?ve asked have said they wanted to get involved, it?s been really good and we?ve now managed to get not just six, but seven planters sponsored completely.? Nigel said the number of hanging baskets outside shops in the town was also up about 50% on last year, so the chamber was hoping Tavistock would really look magnificent as the summer progressed. ?We?ve got the baskets now ? unfortunately we can?t guarantee the sun!? said Nigel. The planters, which cost about £525 each, have been sponsored by Tavistock Town Council, Tavistock Business Association, Focus DIY, Morris Bros, A Scentsation, Randall Cox, Tavistock Tyres and Exhausts, Charles Steevenson, Tavistock Picture Framers, the Bedford Hotel, Fairway Furniture and TAVI.
