THE bank holiday weekend saw the return of one of the Okehampton social calendar's biggest events — the Okehampton Rotary May Fair and duck race.

The sun shone down on the fair last Sunday, with the event returning bigger and better than ever before.

Among the attractions were a dog show run by the Dartmoor View Dog Rescue, Morris dancers, skittles, a display of vintage tractors, and music from Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band and a visiting band all the way from Ashbourne.

Youngsters also enjoyed all the fun of the fair with fairground rides, the chance to climb to the top of the wonky ladder, street entertainers and more.

The ever popular duck race also made its return, with dozens of ducks floating down the river to the finish line.

Allan Balsdon, who organised the event, said: 'It was a lovely weekend and a really good day. It was heaving out at the park and we filled the place.

'It was the busiest the fair has ever been. It was absolutely great to have the fair back after a year off.

'Last year was an absolute disaster with the weather, but we couldn't have wished for it to be any better this year.

'Now we just can't wait to get it back bigger and better next year.'

Allan expressed thanks to Diggerland, Okehampton Post Office, BVS, Okeford Veterinary Centre, Godfrey Short and Squire, Persimmon Homes, Lisa Wadling and all members of Okehampton Rotary for their help with the fair.
