WALL to wall sunshine created the perfect conditions for Tavistock?s annual steam fair last Sunday.

Huge crowds flocked into the town to enjoy the spectacle and sounds of bygone days, as steam engines rumbled around the hot streets, tooting their whistles.

Dozens and dozens of cherished classic cars and vintage vehicles were on display, from Ford Anglias to fire engines, stunning old British bikes to all singing, all dancing Japanese monster machines.

In the pannier market, a wide range of collectors and craftsmen showed off their prized possessions, including one exhibitor with a huge and very unusual collection of china and glass insulators from all around the world.

Dave Davies of the Robey Trust, which organises the event, said they were ?very pleased? at the success of the fair.

?We were delighted with the support from everyone,? said Dave.

?And we were very pleased that Stumbles, Tavistock?s very own engine, was back in steam ? she passed her steam test just before the event,? said Dave, who also paid tribute to Tavistock History Society, which staged a special exhibition of the history of the Robey Trust at their new premises in Court Gate.

?It was a super display, they really put a lot of work and effort into it ? we are so grateful,? said Dave.
