WREN Music is celebrating an extremely successful Summer Music Club held in Okehampton last week.
Youngsters attending the club enjoyed five days of music and song, getting the chance to play a wide range of instruments from Wren Music's extensive stock. They also experienced playing and singing tunes from Devon and around the world in a variety of musical styles.
Participants learned to sing in harmony, with one song having five separate parts sung at the same time.
They also learned to compose and write songs together, some of which made up a performance for parents and friends at Fairplace Church on the Friday afternoon. They also performed in Red Lion Yard to members of the public.
Director Paul Wilson ran the club with Matt Norman, Rosa Rebecka and Emma Welton from Wren Music's team of award winning professional musicians, singers, songwriters and music educators.
Paul felt the experience was very positive: 'It's great to have so many young people working together harmoniously, and showing such obvious joy in their music making and singing.
'We look forward to seeing many of them again at our Okehampton Roots Ensemble weekly afterschool music and singing workshops on Wesnesday afternoons, which start in September.'
The Summer Music Club also gave two local teenagers, Aidan Childs and Kat Dipper, the opportunity to gain work experience. Both have attended a range of Wren Music activities in the past, and shared the skills they learned with younger participants, and assisted with the running of the music club.
