TWO Shebbear College Junior School pupils recently completed the 24-mile Abbot's Way Walk over Dartmoor.
Patrick Faulkner and Lucy Taylor took part in the Abbot's Way walk, organised by Tavistock and District Outdoor Activities Forum and sections of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group. The trek follows a historic path which runs across the southern part of Dartmoor from Buckfast Abbey to Tavistock, including sections of the high moor.
It is believed the route was originally used by tradesmen, as opposed to monks, travelling between the two market towns of Buckfastleigh and Tavistock. The route offers an additional challenge as there are no well defined pathways or route marks.
On the first Sunday of October each year, the route is followed as an organised walk. This year was the 50th anniversary of the event.
