MORE Tavistock College sixth form students than ever before have applied to university this year.
Geoff Orton, director of the sixth form at the college, said that 105 of this year's students have made applications, all using the new National Electronic Application system to speed the process along.
'Offers are arriving now thick and fast,' he said, 'with invitations to interviews all over the country, from the oldest university — Oxford — to the newest — the University of Gloucestershire — and with courses ranging from accountancy to zoology.'
This year's applicants were the first to have taken the new style AS-levels last year. Good quality results achieved in AS-level examinations during their lower sixth year and the good reputation enjoyed by the college nationally, have helped secure offers of university places.
'There is an ever-increasing interest in higher education despite the financial constraints, and we work hard with students to give them sound advice, support and guidance when they are making their choices,' said Mr Orton.
A wide range of courses have been applied for including; Chinese, criminology, journalism, meteorology, music technology, ocean science, social psychology, theatre costume design and theology.
