FOLLOWING their victory in the Devon Sportshall League, Tavistock Athletic Club enjoyed further success in the cross-country Westward League with the final meeting at Exmouth last week.

With the recent wet weather the course was muddy and waterlogged but the small contingent of Tavistock athletes put in a strong performance.

In the senior men's race Richard Drage ran strongly to finish in overall fifth place with Robin Musgrave finishing in 28th place.

Cross-country secretary Karen Ballentyne represented the club in the senior ladies race and finished in a good 34th place.

The regular Westward League U13 runners, Emma Passmore and Alex Richards, were not able to compete but in the U15 boys' event there was again a strong Tavistock contingent with Paul Rowe finishing in fifth followed by Adam Holland in seventh and Adam Tofield in eleventh.

After the last race on the day the final positions in the league were calculated while the runners waited with anticipation for the trophies to be presented.

In the senior men's' event Richard Drage finished in overall third place winning the bronze medal and recording first place in the Vet 40 category. This was a significant achievement for both Richard and the club and reflected the best position in the league in the senior men's event for a Tavistock runner in the club's history.

In the vet 50 category Robin Musgrave finished in third place winning the bronze medal.

There was further success for Tavistock with the good consistent performances of Paul Rowe, Adam Tofield and Adam Holland being rewarded with the silver medal in the U15 boys' team event. Again, this was the first time in recent memory that the Tavistock Club has come away from the league with a team trophy.
