New Year — aiming to keep fit??Looking for something different? Why not try Morris dancing?
Lodestone Border Morris are running a series of free classes at the Kings Centre in Pixon Lane, Tavistock, on Thursday evenings from January 13 for four weeks.
'The dancing is a good mix of traditional and modern morris dances', said dance teacher Stephen Newland. 'And is an exciting way to keep fit and active. If you know your left foot from your right, come along and give it a try. No obligation to dance out, but once bitten by the morris, you may well find it could change your life.
'We are a friendly, sociable bunch and welcome male and female dancers ages from 16 upwards.
'We dance in a lively style called "border morris", using stick clashing to emphasise the beat. It is totally unlike the handkerchief waving of men dressed in white.
'All you need to bring are comfortable shoes and a sense of enthusiasm.'
Squire Dave Wood said: 'It's great to bring the dance to a town like Tavistock. We are at the beginning of the new year so this is the perfect time to try something different with a bit of fun and fitness thrown in. We would also like to hear from musicians who might be interested in playing for the side.'
The introductory evening on Thursday 13 runs from 8pm to 10pm and the classes will run initially for four weeks — free. Refreshments will be available on the night and there is plenty of car parking.
