A SPONSORED Midnight Madness walk across Dartmoor with only moonlight and torch beams to guide the way is taking place next month. To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of the charity Fishermen?s Mission, walkers are being invited to join the charity for an unmissable walking adventure. The circular, approximately 14-mile walk will start at 9pm on Saturday, July 15, from Walkhampton and depending on stamina and ability will take about five to six hours. It?s a rare chance to experience the wilderness and sounds of the moor at night. The experience will be led and supervised by the experts ? the Plymouth team of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue. As a charity, Fisherman?s Mission receives no government or Lottery funding and relies almost entirely upon voluntary contributions to fund their welfare activities. Deep sea fishing is now the UK?s most dangerous peacetime occupation, and on average each year 28 UK vessels sink and 100 fishermen are killed or seriously injured. Gina Moore from Fisherman?s Mission said; ?Do join us on our walk and with your help we can make an even bigger difference to even more lives. ?Help us in supporting our fishermen, who risk their lives daily to put fish on our tables.?
