POLICE are warning youngsters to stay away from the old mill buildings in North Tawton, which have been the location of a number of small fires recently, because they are unsafe.

Crime reduction officer PC Mark Sloman said the old buildings, which are privately owned, were hazardous with exposed shafts and unsafe wooden floors and stairs.

'We know these fires have been started deliberately and that there are youngsters congregating in the area,' he said.

'These buildings are not safe yet we have reason to believe that some kids are camping up there.'

He said the fire brigade had to be called out to extinguish the fires.

'The owner is putting up trespassing signs and if we find people up there we will take action,' said the officer.
