THE £6,000 raised at a concert in May, organised by Callington Rotary Club, was presented to Help for Heroes recently.

Plymouth Guildhall was the venue for the 'South West All Stars' concert where 62 ex-military personnel played, conducted by retired Lt Col and Rotarian, John Ware, formerly principal director of music for the Royal Marine Band Service.

Rotary president at the time of the concert Roy Barraclough (left) presented the cheque to David Gammell, regional co-ordinator for Help for Heroes.

Roy said this was the largest event ever organised by the club, and it could not have taken place without the vision of John Ware, the absolute commitment of the 62 musicians involved, and the behind the scenes work of many members of the Callington Rotary team.

David Gammell thanked the club for their efforts: 'I never cease to be amazed at what can be accomplished by ordinary people who get up from their armchairs determined to make a difference.'
