Duchy Knockout Cup

first round

Gunnislake 8

St Mawgan 1

GUNNISLAKE eased into the second round with a victory comfortably achieved.

They played some excellent football against their lower division opponents who, surprisingly, had no response — surprising as the visitors arrived with a record of nine league wins in ten matches that has taken them to the top of the third division.

Gunnislake were four goals to the good inside 20 minutes and turned a 5-0 interval lead into 6-0 within minutes of the restart. RAF scored a well worked consolation before two further strikes completed the rout.

The home side's midfield quarter of Andy Southcott, Neil Kinger, Steve Gaggini and Matt Avery had a field day and created numerous chances from which their teams strikers benefited. Lee Underwood grabbed himself a hat-trick while fellow striker Joe Pulley notched twice. Kinger and Avery found the target as did central defender Simon Wakeham who fired home from close range for his first goal in some three years.

Gunnislake make the short trip to Lamerton this Saturday for the second round match, where a tough game is expected as their hosts are undefeated this season.

Finally, with their own pitch waterlogged, Gunnislake expressed thanks to St Ann's Chapel FC for allowing them to play this most recent fixture on their ground.
