TAVISTOCK second team were playing Devonshire 3 and knew they would have a tough game. First was Pete Walshe playing at 3. The first game went Pete?s way 9?7 however his opponent did not make it easy pushing Pete all the way. The second game was more of a battle with both players fighting for the serve, and trying to keep the ball tight. Pete won it 10-9. The third game went by very quickly with Pete winning it 9-2. Also playing at the same time was Dave Ruffell playing at number 2. Unusually Dave started off at a fast pace, and played deep pacey shots winning the first game 9-4. However his opponent started playing his own game giving the home player a fight in the second winning it 9-4 to level the match. Both players pushed hard in the second, but it was the visitor who gradually took a hold on the third taking it 9-4. Dave?s game was not quite on the ball in the fourth and the visitor started to take a good hold and won the match 3-1 winning 9-4 in the fourth. The third game was between Stuart Cox and Mark Lowe. This game was straight forward in terms of the result as Stuart won the match 3-0, with his opponent only winning 7 points in the whole match. However Mark battled bravely and started to gain points in the 2nd and 3rd games. The most thrilling match was between Stuart Weatherby and a talented young player Duncan. This was a fascinating match and Duncan started very positively, winning the game 9-2. Stuart realising the task ahead started to dig in, in the second and started playing with much more authority. It was an exciting game which Stuart won 10-9, levelling the match. The third was equally as intense. Stuart had really got his game going eventually taking the game 9-5. Duncan had become frustrated as Stuart had been able to attack his shots. This was reflected in the fourth game which Stuart won 9-7 winning the match and the overall tie for Tavistock. The final game was between John Jameson and Nick playing at number one for the Devonshire side. John was finding his feet in the first game, eventually losing it 9-5. The second was much more of a battle as John played to his st engths keeping the ball deep and wide. Nick however had the edge in terms of pace and accuracy playing a few deadly drop shots, which left John stranded. Third game saw John trying to assert his game, however he could not keep up with Nick?s accuracy. John finally lost the match 3-0. However this did not affect the overall result with Tavistock winning the Tie 3-2, breaking Devonshire 3?s winning streak. Tavistock are currently 3rd in the division 3 and are looking to continue their winning ways.
