'FROM Waste to Resource' will be the theme of a talk at the Okehampton U3A general meeting by Andy Barron, Waste Management and Recycling Officer for West Devon Borough Council.
His illustrated talk will take attendees through everything we recycle, and then what is done with it.
Dee McVey, chairman of the Okehampton U3A said: 'According to Defra rainforests are being cut down at the rate of 100 acres a minute.
'In comparison each ton of recycled paper can save seventeen trees, three hundred and eighty gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, four thousand kilowatts of energy and seven thousand gallons of water!'
Andy will also be bringing along copies of 'Cooking with Leftovers' a recipe book that instructs readers how to cut down on food waste, as well as calendars detailing up-to-date collection dates.
The group meet on the last Thursday of every month in the hall at the Ockment Centre. Non-members are welcome.
The meeting starts at 2.30pm today (Thursday) with tea, coffee and biscuits on offer.
