'QUESTION Time' comes to Okehampton on April 30, as five prospective candidates for the Central Devon seat in the general election come to town.

Christians Together in Okehampton and the Devon Heartlands Community Forum has organised the event.

The candidates taking part are Conservative candidate and current Central Devon MP Mel Stride, Green candidate Andy Williamson, Labour candidate Lynne Richards, Liberal Democrats candidate Alex White and UKIP candidate John Conway.

The aim is to run the evening along the lines of BBC's 'Question Time' programme — the chairman will be the Rev Stephen Cook.

People will be asked to submit questions in writing at the beginning of the evening. The organising team will then select the questions which seem to sum up what most people want to ask.

The candidates will have no prior notice of the questions.

Each candidate will have a maximum of two minutes to answer each question. This will enable around five main topics to be debated.

The candidates will have three minutes to introduce themselves and outline their key messages and issues.

The doors to the event at Fairplace Church Hall will open at 7pm for the submission of written quesions.

The event then starts at 7.30pm with a welcome and the candidates' introductory statements followed by the question and answer session. The event is planned to run until 9pm.

All are welcome to attend.
