SPECIALLY-trained volunteers are already putting the brakes on speeding drivers in a notorious Tavistock rat run.
Some of the newest recruits to the police-backed Speedwatch campaign went on duty in Anderton Lane for the third time – and reported a ‘quiet’ day as drivers took notice of the hi-vis dressed and camera-equipped team set up by West Devon Borough councillor James Spettigue and town councillor Ginnie Parker as a deterrent to speeding drivers. They spotted a small number of motorists breaking the 30mph speed limit, but most were well within the legal requirements.
Cllr Spettigue said they had even received encouragement from some drivers who waved as they passed, adding: ‘We’ve had no incidents of abuse at all.’
Speedwatch teams pass on details of cars which break the speed limit to police, who may take action against persistent offenders.
