FOUR hundred years after the infamous Gunpowder Plot, Guy Fawkes will be making his presence felt in Sticklepath, as the village celebrates with the annual fireshow on November 5. The 22nd fireshow, no mere village fireworks display but a major West Devon arts event, will include giant puppets, music, performances by local children and adults in a storyline culminating in a huge bonfire. After a magnificent fireworks display, the stage itself is set alight. Organiser Fiona Reddaway said: ?This year there will be a musical theme to the show, there are a lot of musical characters in the story ? I think it?s going to be a really good fun celebration of the anniversary. ?Guy Fawkes himself is always involved and always gets into mischief. He?s always our key figure, he?s always the last one on the stage and always gets burned at the end ? but he comes back every year!? Last year?s fireshow was held with a full capacity crowd of 3,000. To be sure of not missing the fun at this year?s event, the fireshow committee is now selling tickets in advance and strongly advises residents to take advantage of this opportunity, as there will only be a limited number of tickets on sale on the gate. They are available from Donald?s in Okehampton and Chastey?s Shoes in Okehampton and the local stores in South Zeal and Sticklepath until November 4, priced £6 per adult, £1 per child aged 14 and under. Gates open at 6pm at the Finch Foundry Field, Sticklepath ? the show will begin at 7.30pm prompt. There is free parking and spectators can also use the free return shuttle bus from Okehampton. This leaves More Newsagents and the old Esso Garage opposite Giblands every 15 minutes from 6.15pm until 7.15pm. For safety reasons, alcohol and fireworks, including sparklers, will not be allowed on the fireshow field.
