A LARGE gathering from the united benefice of St Eustachius' Parish Church, Tavistock, and St Paul's, Gulworthy, with the Rev Michael Brierley, met last Sunday for a celebratory lunch to mark the retirement of Tavistock headteacher John George. The lunch, held at High Woodley Farm, Gulworthy, and hosted by Judith and Peter Blowey, follows John's 23 years' service as headteacher at St Peter's School in Tavistock. More than 60 guests enjoyed the celebrations. John was accompanied by his wife, Beverley. He was presented with a print of Tavistock Parish Church as a memento on his retirement by Mr Brierley, who thanked John for his hard work and commitment to St Peter's School. Also attending were Bishop David Vunagi and his wife, Mary, from Melanesia, who have been visiting the Exeter Diocese before attending the Lambeth Conference in Canterbury this week.
