A SPECIAL award was presented to a Yelverton resident last week in recognition of her service to the community.

The Rotary Club of Yelverton presents the ‘community service’ award to people who are considered to have provided exceptional service in the community.

Ross Dent, the president of Yelverton Rotary Club, presented Gerry Madar of Yelverton with her award.

Ross said: ‘Gerry has continually given her time over the past 12 months, to professionally assist the Rotary Club in training 200 persons from the local area to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and instruction on the use of a defibrillator and we still have a long list of persons requiring training.’

Gerry, who works in Coronary Care at Derriford Hospital, said she was surprised at being given the award and was glad to help the Rotary Club with the lifesaving medical procedure.

Yelverton Rotary Club, in conjunction with Buckland Monachorum Parish Council, has installed a defibrillator on the external wall at Yelverton Surgery.
