THE Cogs and Wheels Ladies’ Morris side celebrated its 21st birthday with a party for members old and new at the King’s Arms in South Zeal.

A small group of ‘Cogs Originals’ cut two magnificent cakes baked by dancers Margaret Allin and Lyn Webber, applauded by a large gathering of dancers, musicians, friends and ‘Oily Rags’( as supportive husbands are known, because they keep the Cogs and Wheels going, if not in good order!)

Founder members Brenda Tombs and Yvonne Reason reminisced about the early days.

Tributes were made to former members and also all the musicians who have played for the dancing over the 21 years.

During this time the group has performed at pubs, fêtes, festivals and agricultural shows not just in Devon, but as far afield as Dorset, Cornwall, the Welsh border and France.

The ladies have had plenty of fun on the way and great friendships have been formed and maintained.

They have also raised thousands of pounds for good causes over the years and performed at retirement homes, memory cafés and many charitable events.

The party was also an opportunity to welcome a new member to the side and there is still time for anyone interested in joining them to do so, as practise begins in South Zeal in October. Ring Ania on 01837 840756 or send an email to [email protected]
