SO the 'authorities are starting with a clean sheet' with regard to 'enhancements' in Okehampton. It looks like a heavily blotted sheet to me including the following smudges.
1. Pedestrian island in West Street that is too wide and looks a mess because it has never been finished.
2. Prime car, coach and lorry park built on and lost forever.
3. Deformation in kerb line, that is now indistinct, along East Street that pushes uphill traffic into the middle of the road.
4. A cycle lane along North Street that defies belief by being the wrong way down a narrow one-way street. This is positively dangerous and parents should ensure that their children do not use it.
5. Blocking off access to James Street by the church without proper consultation, consideration or turning circle.
It would be nice to list some 'enhancements' but it is difficult to think of any that really qualify. It would be best if the authorities corrected and reversed some of the above dis-enhancements and then left Okehampton alone, retire early and let someone competent fully think out what, if anything, is required.
