I WISH to applaud the actions of the council in the case of certain panning applications, where it is deemed necessary to 'see for themselves' what the fuss is all about!
I've heard it implied that ' oh, they're only out for a jolly' but sometimes it really is necessary to clarify matters.
Several years ago I was unhappy with the proposal for a new 'mini-mansion' to be erected next door — to replace a small bungalow. As the application stood it would have completely obliterated any direct light entering my kitchen — whose only window faced the proposed new building.
As a result of my visiting the council offices, followed by their site inspection, the proposal was directed to be amended and the new building to be erected further back from the boundary and reduced in height by quite a few metres. Thank you planning committee, a good, acceptable result all round!
