TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club men?s section finished the week on a high when they returned from Plymouth on Saturday, having beaten their old adversary Plymouth Sir Francis Drake 82-71. Skip Mike Allen and crew of Ernie Piper, Geoff Cork and Barry Chappell won 19-14. Skip Roy Northam and team of Stuart Doidge, Mike Felles and Tom Sharp won 23-30. Skip John Smith and his team of Walter Meek, Albert Townsend and Mike Silcox won 22-16, whilst club captain Norman Paramor and crew of Ray Meneer, Vic Stacey and David Perry went down 18-21. The first match of the week was a men?s match against a Section Seven League representative team. Tavistock lost the match 98-132, after winning only two of the six rinks played. Tavistock skip Mike Allen and squad of Pat Sykes, Brian Ellicott and Tom Sharp won 22-16, while club captain Norman Paramor and his team of Ray Meneer, Albert Townsend and Geoff Cork won 23-19, despite their opposition picking up ten shots in the last six ends of the game. Losing skips were: Malcolm Bloomer (17-19), John Smith (12-20), Roy Northam (15-23) and George Blackburn (9-35). The men?s section faced Tamar on Thursday in a Buckland Cup home fixture which they lost 70-73, after each side had won two rinks. Tavistock winning rinks were skip Clive Jago and team of Ernie Piper, Barry Chappell and Der Saunders, who won 20-14. Skip Mike Allen and squad of Frank Welch, Vic Stacey and John smith took the last end of the match by one shot to achieve a 20-19 victory, while skips Norman Paramor and Malcolm Bloomer (16-20) both led losing teams. The ladies lost Wednesday?s two rink away fixture with Oreston 40-37. Skip Marion Allen?s team of Hazel Lovell, Jenny Aldridge and Marlene Paramor won 24-17 and skip Jill Lacayo?s squad of Betty Browse, Shirley Blackburn and Anne Browne lost 13-23. The friendly rink playing alongside the league rinks saw Tavistock skip Catriona Meek and her team of Joan Northey, Pat Hoar and Freda Isaac pick up three shots on the last end to achieve a one shot, 19-18 victory. Friday saw Tavistock men lose their Top Club away match when facing Tamar for the second time in a week, and this time winning only two of the five rinks played. Ernie Piper and Malcolm Bloomer won the Pairs match, and skip Roy Northam and his team of Bill Ash, Der Saunders and Brian Davis won the Full Rink. Tavistock lost the Four Wood, Triples and Two Wood matches. The ladies? two rink home game against Buckfastleigh on Saturday ended in a win for Buckfastleigh after each side won one rink. Tavistock skip Marion Allen and team of Marlene Paramor, Hazell Lovell and Jenny Aldridge won 20-17, while skip Yvonne Meneer and crew of Sue Silcox, Shirley Blackburn and Anne Brown lost 15-26. An amended result from last week shows that Tavistock ladies had won their neutral ground Inter-Club match against Kingsteignton 49-29, with skip Yvonne Meneer and team winning 27-17, and skip Marion Allen leading her crew of a 22-12 victory.
