Tavistock Seconds v Plymouth Civil Service Seconds TAVISTOCK won the toss and put Civil Service into bat and the visitors were soon in trouble when an ill- timed drive by Dowding was caught by Gliddon at mid-off. Thomas cleaned out opener Cload with a yorker for eight and Civil Service were 16 for two. Walaszkwoski and Dent repaired the damage, taking Civil Service onto 79 before Dent went to pull a straight ball off Cleave; things could have been better for Tavistock, but McGahey dropped Walaszkwoski off Jefferys when he was on 30. Piddock came in and late cut Jefferys to Hutchins; Walaszkwoski called him through but Hutchins' throw hit the stumps and ran him out for 54 - much to McGahey's relief. The wicket was good, offering little to the bowlers and once he was in Piddock helped himself to 81. Gliddon bowled well at the close and 197 was below par on this wicket. The Tavistock reply had a disastrous start with both Cleave and Stephens out in consecutive balls. Goodchild and McGahey repaired the damage before McGahey played on with the score on 64. Goodchild followed for 44 in the next over and Tavistock were again in trouble. However, the Tavistock middle order clicked for the first time this season, and Chappell with 33 and Kaminski with 33 pushed Tavistock up to 157. It was left to a mature and ever improving Simon Gliddon to stroke 54 and win the game for Tavistock with 15 balls to spare.

Tavistock Seconds v Barnstaple AFTER being put into bat Barnstaple made a steady start, scoring 22 off their first ten overs. Veteran Dave Jefferys made the breakthrough, bowling Bowden for ten. Wayne Downham removed Loader and Holm in an excellent spell, taking two for 38. Dave Jefferys also bowled a tight spell and at 105 for four with eight overs to go Tavistock were well satisfied, but then Clarke smashed a quick 48, chancing his arm and running with his luck he pushed the total to a vital 179. Tavistock started well, with 27 on the board before Goodchild was lbw. Chappel then ran himself out and Webber played all round a straight ball and Tavistock were 33 for 3. Gliddon stemmed the flow for 20 runs before a rush of blood to the head had him stumped. The fight back was led by captain John McGahey whose innings was slow to start, but then took the attack to the bowlers, scoring 47 including six fours. He was well supported by Rob Milligan with 22, sharing a 53 run partnership, but when Milligan was yorked and McGahey followed 27 runs later Tavistock were still 46 runs short. Two more silly run outs and despite a gutsy 11 from Matt Mills Tavistock ended up 22 runs short of a game they should have won.

Tavistock Seconds v Plymstock ON a wet slow wicket, no-one wanted to lose the toss, but as with most things this season luck was not on Tavistock's side. Plymstock had no hesitation in putting Tavistock into bat. Goodchild (19) and Stephens (21) put on a good start but when Goodchild was trapped lbw McGahey soon followed. Playing too early on the slow wicket he was caught for a duck. Young Scaglioni showed what a prospect he is with a confident 16. Chappel smashed a quality 58 to put Tavistock in command at 145 for 5 before the rain came and ended the game with six overs to go and good total in Tavistock's grasp. l Before the game the flag was at half mast and there was a minute's silence for Maurice Luke, who sadly died this week. He played for Tavistock in the 70s and captained the 2nd XI.
