AN invitation to take part in a dance event in Tavistock's Bedford Square is offered to people of all ages — no dance experience necessary.

As part of the Tavistock Music and Arts Festival and in celebration of World Dance Day, the 'Shift' dance event is encouraging children and adults alike to take part and have some fun.

Shift is a tribute to the architect Edward Rundle and the builders of Tavistock Town Hall in the 1860s. Rosie Allen-Perdikeas, youth dance champion for West Devon, has choreographed the dance, using simple movements to express the hard, physical labour involved in the building of the town hall, in three user-friendly dance styles — Creative, African and Street dance.

Interested people have the chance to learn the moves before the event at the free Shift workshops.

Two workshops take place at Tavistock College dance studio on Sunday March 28 and Sunday April 25 at 11am to 12.30pm, and the final workshop is at the Wharf, Tavistock, on Thursday April 29 from noon to 1pm.

The Shift event will take place in Bedford Square on World Dance Day, Thursday April 29 at 4pm.

Booking is required for the Tavistock College workshops. To book contact Rosie on 07906 585780 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
