Underhill Group Plymouth & West Devon Combination Tavistock 2nds 4 CSSA S&L 2 FOR the first fifteen minutes of this game the visitors prevented Tavistock from getting into their stride. Tavistock found it difficult to even clear the ball from their own half and it began to look like a potential re-run of the resounding defeat inflicted recently by the CSSA on Tavistock. Having weathered the initial storm Tavistock?s confidence grew visibly and twenty three minutes into the game a free kick close to the CSSA box was converted by Adrian Payne to give Tavistock a vital cushion at half-time. The second half developed into an exciting free-flowing match with end to end football, until some uncharacteristically sloppy defending from Tavistock resulted in the ball being bundled over the line to make it 1-1. Six minutes later Tavistock responded with Paul Cowling taking on the CSSA defenders and slotting the ball past the keeper to put Tavistock back in the lead. The visitors, refusing to be intimidated, replied almost immediately and the teams were once again on level terms at 2-2. In a tit-for-tat move, less than two minutes later, Craig Hodge broke through the CSSA midfield and laid the ball into the path of Cowling who put the ball superbly in the back of the net. With both teams in attack mode it was almost inevitable that another goal would come from somewhere and with seven minutes to go Cowling supplied it, wrapping up the game for Tavistock with a well deserved hat trick.
