THE Lions Club of Tavistock is starting its search for a young lady to wear the glittering tiara and wave a royal hand at this year's spectacular Tavistock Carnival.

Now is the time for three lucky youngsters to win a chance to step up to the vacant throne as the new carnival princess and attendants.

All young ladies who apply, using the adjacent form, must be between the ages of seven and eleven years on July 1, 2011 and live within the PL19 and PL20 postal districts.

The competition is sponsored by Lawsons of Tavistock and the Times and the club is delighted with the continued support from both companies.

The judging will take place at the Tavistock Parish Church Centre in Plymouth Road on Tuesday, May 10 at 6pm with the official crowning during 'Fun in the Meadows' on Sunday, July 10 at 3pm.

The carnival princess and attendants will lead the carnival procession through the streets of Tavistock on Saturday, July 16, so the lucky winners must be available for these dates.

Tavistock's ever-popular carnival week starts on Saturday, July 9 with an action-packed week of events for all the family culminating in the procession the following Saturday.

The theme for this year is 'Heroes and Villains' so watch out for the entry form that will be appearing in this paper in early June, but now is the time to get those thinking caps on.
