AS part of their Chance to Shine project, Lewdown cricket coaches were joined by England player and Chance to Shine Ambassador Caroline Atkins in delivering cricket to local schools.
50 year 7 and 8 girls from Okehampton College enjoyed a catching, bowling and mini games with Caroline, with many showing interest in joining the new after school and club sessions.
Thanks to Mhairi McCall, 108 girls from Tavistock Primary, Whitchurch Primary and St Peters Primary attended a session at Tavistock Primary. Catching, throwing, bowling and the girls favourite 'diamond cricket' were well enjoyed, with autographs from Caroline at the end. The day ended with a session at Lew Trenchard Primary School with the children challenging Caroline to sprint races as well as bowling against her and being bowled to.
Lewdown CC representative Brenden Worth coached with Caroline all day and said: 'It is wonderful that girls are being given the opportunity to sample and enjoy the great game that is cricket. They are eager to learn and have a go, and as we have seen all day, the fun factor is clear for all to see.'
Girl only sessions are held at Lewdown CC on Sundays from 5pm-6.30pm, with competitive softball and hardball matches scheduled. The club welcome girls of all ages and abilities and there is no charge.
