ST PETER?S junior school, in Tavistock, has won an award for its provision of extra curricular activities for the third consecutive year.
This year, the school scooped the Schools Extra Award on the strength of its after-school chess club, which has more than 30 members.
St Peter?s was one of 300 schools across the UK to receive recognition from national charity Education Extra.
Headteacher John George said: ?The Schools Extra award is tangible recognition of our commitment to the enrichment of young people?s education.
?Chess is extremely popular, but is just one of a dozen clubs in the school run by teachers, past teachers and parents.
?These activities provide an extra dimension to the children?s learning, as well as providing much challenge and enjoyment.?
Education Extra works to promote the development of out-of-hours learning activities and supports a network of over 10,000 schools and organisations in running extra curricular programmes.
