TRANSITION Tavistock has received a small grant from the Energy Saving Trust's Ready for Retrofit Project to run an 'Energy Savers at Home' event.

The public can visit householders across the Tavistock area and its villages to find out what they have done, have a chat about the costs and benefits, and consider how measures might work in their own homes.

Householders will be asked to open their homes on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19, 2014, between 10am and 4pm (or at times during the day to suit).

Thomas Store from the Energy Savings Trust said: 'Open home events are attended by thousands of people every year in areas like Totnes, Bristol, Crediton and Stroud.

'Experience has shown that they lead to action — as many as 83 per cent of visitors are responding, taking practical steps to improve energy efficiency in their own homes.'

Kate Royston from Transition Tavistock said: 'We have been very encouraged by the success of our growing community of householders sharing experiences and our Energy Savers at Home in 2012. We hope that our 2014 campaign can help support wider adoption locally.'

If you have conserved or reduced energy, or generated your own energy from a renewable source, and would be willing to open your home to encourage others to do the same, contact Kate Royston, Transition Tavistock, on 07969 569444 or email [email protected]">[email protected]

l The open homes weekend will be followed by an Eco Fair at Tavistock College on Saturday, January 25, where householders and others can speak to specialists about energy conservation and reduction.
