A PILATES teacher is appealing for help in raising money for her trek around the Pembrokeshire coast in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT). For this event Ruth Harris had to raise a minimum of £1,250 by early May. She has managed to collect approximately £900 but asks for help with the remaining £300. The money is the entrance fee for the trek which goes straight to TCT, as trekkers have to pay for their own accommodation and travel costs. Ruth, who teaches pilates in Tavistock and Plymouth, has been raising money for the trust for the past three years, trekking in the UK and by guiding group walks around Dartmoor every Friday. Walkers from her Friday hikes pay £3 to join in, Ruth said it has raised a considerable amount. She has put the money towards the entrance fee but said it is still a challenge to raise the remaining amount needed. Ruth said: ?I wanted to make a difference to a charity, and even though I?ve been a regular giver to many charities over the years, by dedicating my efforts to one charity I?ve managed to raise over £3,000. ?I chose Teenage Cancer Trust because people just aren?t aware of the impact cancer can have on the young, and I wanted to raise awareness of their work.? The charity raises money to create specialist cancer care units for young people to improve their treatment regimes and convalescence. Otherwise teenagers would receive care in an adult unit or alongside other children in a general paediatric unit, which is not geared towards the care needed by the young people.
