MEAVY School played host to the final West Devon Primary School cross country race in this series, provided by Tavistock Athletic Club to ensure the area's pupils are given every opportunity to run cross country competitively within a supportive, positive environment. Martin Exley from Tavistock Athletic Club said: 'Conditions were excellent for racing, dry, not too firm underfoot with a light breeze and there was huge support for the many parents, siblings and school staff who attended to cheer on the runners. all contributed to a fantastic afternoons running by the teams.' In the 1.5 km fun run all competitors ran well with the fastest almost catching the hare! All the fun runners were presented with a medal. The team race was a challenging 2.2km run with a tough hill to conquer at approximately 1km, the field was rutted and the course included a section through a wooded area. Marshalls were on hand along the route with Hares providing the lead runners a visual route guide. The girls' event was held first with the boys setting off shortly after. The standard of racing throughout was high with every runner finishing - a testament to all schools involved. Overall individual first in the girl's series was Eleanor Partington of Kelly Preparatory School who had a strong finish over her team mate and second overall girl, Selina Kisby. Third overall girl with a strong running style was Lilly Spry of Walkampton Primary School. The girls' team event was won by Kelly Preparatory School, who also won the first schools' trophy. Overall individual first in the boys' series was Jordon Channon while second was his Tavistock Primary School running mate Robert Young. Robert was closely followed by Adam Thyer of Walkhampton. The boys' team event was won by Walkhampton Primary School who also won the small first schools trophy. So heading into next season Walkhampton and Kelly are neck and neck. All participants received a medal. Tavistock Athletic Club would like to thank all the participants, their family and friends all the school staff and land owners for their help.
