ONE of the most ?hotly? tipped new bands of 2007 performed last week in front of cheering fans from their home town during a sell-out concert. The Rumble Strips, which features three former Tavistock College students, came to the Wharf as part of their ?Taste of Devon? tour and were re-united with their home town fans. The band consists of Charlie Waller, lead vocals and guitar; Henry Clark, keyboards and trumpet; Tom Gorbutt, saxophone; Matthew Wheeler, drums; and Sam Webber, bass. The hotly-tipped band have not performed in Tavistock since their rise in fame and were pleased to see some of their primary and secondary school teachers in the audience. Before the gig, Henry told the Times it was nice to be back in Tavistock and he was surprised he was the concert was a sell-out. ?We are really looking forward to the gig. I even have some primary school teachers coming to watch us play. It will be nice to see everyone.? Throughout the concert the rising rock stars looked happy to be there and pleased to be performing in front of a crowd proud of home-grown talent. They played some of their well-known songs, including ?Alarm Clock?, their new single ? due out on August 27 ? ?Girls and Boys in Love?, and a cover of Thin Lizzy?s ?The Boys are Back in Town? ? the B side of their new single. When the concert finished, Henry said: ?It was cool and we really enjoyed it. Although a few things went wrong ? Tom?s sax broke and we went through three guitars ? we still had a good reaction from the crowd. It was a really good gig.? When fans left the Wharf, comments were of how well the band performed, how well they played their instruments and how much fun they seemed to be having on stage. Amy Coulshaw from Yelverton said it was the first time she had heard the band: ?I loved it. The music was brilliant, they had a great vibe and great charisma. ?It?s great to see local guys doing so well and enjoying what they are doing ? I will see them again.? The Rumble Strips is currently in the middle of a packed out schedule which is filled with festivals. So far the band has performed at 20 festivals with another 15 to go before the summer ends. This Monday (August 27) the band?s new single ?Girls and Boys in Love? will be released, and the eagerly awaited debut album ?Girls and Weather? will be released on September 10. The new single, is not only a summer anthem in waiting, but has also been chosen by comedy actor Simon Pegg as the main theme for his new film, directed by Friends star David Schwimmer, ?Run Fatboy Run?, and will feature in trailers leading up to the film?s release on September 7, and the film itself.
