Willand Rover 3

Okehampton Argyle 2

THIS was always going to be a tough game against a resurgent Willand and it proved to be so.

Okehampton knew they needed 7 points from 12 for a runners up spot in the league but it looked as if nerves might have got the better of some players.

The game started well for them and they ought to have been two up in the opening minutes but both of Adam Mortimer?s shots found the side netting.

Willand started to dominate proceedings and Okehampton were caught out in the 20th minute when the defence failed to deal with a long through-ball. The willand striker found space and ran at goal. Shaun Sandercock made himself as large as possible and saved the shot, but the rebound hit James Williams and went over the line for an own goal.

Okehampton equalised through Mortimer when he connected with a corner kick and his deflected shot gave the keeper little chance.

The second half was ten minutes old when Mortimer made it 2-1 following excellent approach down the left wing from Robbie Sandercock.

But with only five minutes to go it all went wrong. Willand equalised then in the third minute of extra time Okehampton again failed to deal with a punt forward and the home side scored a near carbon copy of the first goal.

This weekend Okehampton take on league champions Tap and Barrel at home. Support would be welcomed by the team, as they play for a second place spot in the league.
