HER sterling work for the community, including raising hundreds of pounds for charity, has won Margaret Willmott of Bere Ferrers the Rotary Club of Yelverton?s Community Award.

Margaret, who runs the Lanterna Guest House, the local grocery shop and hairdressers in her village, was recognised for her work in enhancing the community, helping to hold it together and making it function, plus her work for the church.

She received the award from Lady Kitson, who is one of the deputy lieutenants of Devon, at the senior citizen?s Christmas party in Bere Ferrers together with a cheque for £200 for her chosen charity ? the Devon Air Ambulance.

Worthy candidates are nominated for the award every year but Margaret said the honour came as a bit of a shock.

?I still do not know who nominated me but it is lovely to receive this even though it has taken me back a bit,? she said.

The recipient is a member of the WI and the parochial church council and takes bookings for many local events. She regularly fundraises for the village hall, the church and the air ambulance.
