TAVISTOCK?S own theatre company, The Tavonians, bring their production of Tom Stoppard?s classic tragic comedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead to the Wharf this month from March 29 to April 1. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead explores the age-old theme of fate versus free-will through two minor characters from Shakespeare?s Hamlet, relegating the main roles to bit parts. Can the duo piece together what is happening in the state of Denmark; where the action is leading; and which one is Rosencrantz and which is Guildenstern ? before it is too late? And will the mysterious Player (Jeff Sleeman) help them or drive them towards their deaths? First performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 1966, the play has continued to win huge praise and acclaim every since. Matt Keast (Rosencrantz), Nick Lewis (Guildenstern) and Jeff Sleeman (the Player) are joined by a talented and enthusiastic cast. Ali Fife, directing her first production for the Tavonians, says: ?This is a play I was very keen to work on. It is lively and bright and there is so much to give pleasure. ?It has been interesting to watch as the cast and crew uncover the depths of the play through the rehearsal period. In some ways it?s a serious play ? but it?s also fun and I?m hoping for a lot of laughter.?
