THE FIRST passengers stepped about Dartmoor Railway?s new Sunset Special steam service this week for a romantic evening trip. Darfield No.1 ? an ex-colliery engine ? pulled the passenger carriages on a 24-mile round excursion which set off from Okehampton station at 6.30pm on Saturday. The train first stopped at Meldon ? where passengers had the chance to walk across the famous viaduct . After 20 minutes, the passengers were then taken all the way to Bow, returning via Sampford Courtenay where there was a brief stop for the engine to take on water. Passengers enjoyed onboard tea, coffee, and tipples from a bar, before ending their trip at Okehampton Station at around 9pm for a barbecue. Similar trips are being held on June 16, July 7 and throughout August and September ? on some trips the end of the day will be celebrated with real ale and a jazz band.
