A UNIQUE indoor sports event came to Okehampton last weekend, thanks to Okehampton Cycle Club.
The Charter Hall played host to an evening of Rollapaluza roller racing, an event which sees competitors ride side by side on static bikes, on February 4. Roller racing was a popular indoor sport in the pre-war era.
The event saw cycle enthusiasts race on static bikes, with the equivalent distance they travel recorded on a display behind them. The winner is the rider who covers 500 metres the quickest.
The overall winner in the men’s competition was Andrew White, who showed strong form throughout after finishing as top qualifier. He finished the 1000 metre final in 49.30. In second place was Tim Bailey, who finished in 51.04. Third was Josh Coyne.
In the women’s competition, top qualifier Amanda French went on to win the entire contest, winning the final with a time of 26.57, beating Emma Jefferies in the final, who finished in a time of 27.31. In third place was Vicki Saunders.
