Projects past, present and future were featured in a roadshow at Bere Alston Primary School at the end of February.

The roadshow was organised by Tamar Community Futures and the Tamar Valley Service. The exhibition was the result of two previous meetings, when representatives from voluntary organisations, community groups, local authorities, government agencies and individuals met to discuss how to safeguard the present and future well-being of the Tamar Valley.

Mark Goodman of the Tamar Valley Service and Gill Smith of Tamar Community Futures were on hand to answer questions. Projects featured included work on the Bere Ferrers recreation field by the Villagers Group, the Bere Pick U Up transport scheme, and the WASPS wheeled-transport project and abc nursery provision scheme in Bere Alston.

A website for the Tamar Valley Tourism Association has been created and launched, proving a useful tool for TAVATA in the wake of the foot and mouth outbreak.

Phase two of the Bere Ferrers recreation field project ? to provide a hard court and additional enhancement ? awaits additional funding, as do the planned improvements and extension to the church hall.

The approved Heart of the Village improvement scheme for the area around the war memorial in Bere Ferrers is also awaiting funding, as is the newly-formed Tamar/Tavy Gig Club.

Other possible projects in the pipeline include the re-instatement of the 20th century party fields near the railway stations at both villages.

It is planned to follow the completion of the roadshows in the southern parts of the valley by the submission of a management plan to various fundholders in May.
