Ford Street in Tavistock will remain closed overnight after a landslip, Devon County Council officials have said.
The road was closed and police were at the scene earlier today after the bank gave way near the junction with Spring Hill
A DCC spokesman said: ’The rain has led to part of the bank to give way and to fall into the road. For safety reasons we have had to close the road.
’The safety of residents and road users is our top priority and because of the high moisture content of the ground there are concerns that more of the bank might fall away.
’The road will be assessed again tomorrow. Unfortunately it’s too early to say when the road will be safe to reopen.’
