POLICE temporarily closed Pixon Lane in Tavistock yesterday morning (Wednesday), after reports that the old railway bridge which crosses the road was unsafe.

Passers-by said a large rock was hanging off the bridge, which could have posed a threat to drivers beneath, if the rock was to fall.

It is thought that a large vehicle may have hit the bridge, causing the damage.

Two officers attended the scene to assess the damage, and deal with the situation.
